ENDS MEET
A site-specific work at Castrum Peregrini, Amsterdam, 2016
Where is the frontier of LIKE and LOVE? Gisèle van Waterschoot van der Gracht wrote this question on a note sometime in the 19XX’s. When I found it, in 2014, it formed the starting point of my journey into her archive and atelier.
ENDS MEET - Fluid composition | Porcelain & Polaroids x 22
I invited the audience into a private space, a former painter’s studio. Once inside, the audience participated in the creation of the work, which was based on my research question: Where is the frontier of LIKE and LOVE? Within the installation, audience members merged together for a short time, while the space’s natural lighting influenced the shape and sharpness of the boundary- challenging forms they became. Tese hybrid shapes were captured on Polaroids, which I presented in handmade porcelain frames.

While sifting through Gisèle van Waterschoot van der Gracht’s photo archive, I zeroed in on images that showed hands making contact. Could I tell the difference between ‘like’ and ‘love’ from the way the hands touched?
The exhibition was part of Unseen Photo Festival 2016.
